HOME IMPROVEMENT CHECKLIST

Step 1. The Vision
Quality home improvement begins with vision. Understanding what you want prior to beginning a project makes it easier for you and your contractor to realize that vision.

Step 2. Obtaining Competitive Quotes
New Berlin Redi-Mix, Inc. highly recommends obtaining competitive quotes. We can provide you with a list of our concrete contractors, but it is up to you to choose the right one for your needs. It is important to give competing contractors the same information so they are bidding on an even scale. We feel that obtaining at least (3) bids offers you the best basis for comparison.

Step 3. Quality Check
A clear, concise bid outlining all the services they will provide and the terms under which they will be paid.

References and former customers you can contact including former projects you can see first hand.
The time frame they will require to complete the project – don’t underestimate the importance of this step. Many homeowners are disappointed when they were under a false impression of perceived project time.

The completed bid should be signed and dated. As an extra quality check, we suggest you contact the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Protection Agencies at (414) 273-1600.

Step 4. Waivers
The last step of this process is mechanics lien waivers. Cover this issue with your chosen contractor before he begins work on your home. All material and labor improvements to your real estate may have attachable lien rights. Make sure you collect proper lien waivers from all parties involved with your home improvement project before making final payments. No general contractor or subcontractor has the right to waive for another. The waiver should be in original form from the supplier or contractor directly providing the materials or labor.

If you have any questions on the above suggestions, New Berlin Redi-Mix, Inc. would be glad to assist you. Call us at (262) 679-1700.
